UC Davis Medieval and Early Modern Studies Student Learning Objectives
A student graduating from UC Davis with a major in Medieval and Early Modern Studies will be able to:
- Demonstrate broad familiarity with medieval and early modern history, societies, and cultural and religious traditions. Assessment: Final exams and interpretive papers from a representative sample of MST 20 A and B classes will be reviewed every three years for accuracy and appropriate breadth of knowledge.
- Demonstrate detailed knowledge of at least one historical period and culture. Assessment: Final exams, interpretive papers, and creative projects from a representative sample of upper-division classes will be reviewed every three years to measure literary-historical mastery.
- Assess and correctly use primary and secondary sources to develop complex and original ideas presented in clear, well-organized essays. Assessment: Interpretive papers from a representative sample of lower- and upper-division courses will be reviewed every three years for research competence, interpretive sophistication, and sensitivity to cultural context.
