Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala are award-winning filmmakers. Their works include Goodnight Mommy (2014) and The Lodge (2019). Their latest film The Devil's Bath (2024) was awarded a Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival and won the Austrian Film Prize. Austria’s Selection for the Academy Award for Best International Feature 2025.
Austria, 1750. Des Teufels Bad (The Devil’s Bath) follows the story of Agnes, a woman who commits a heinous act in order to escape a life circumscribed by repressive religious dogma. Based on the work of UC Davis historian Kathy Stuart, the film explores the intersection of crime, punishment and religion in 18th-century Europe.
